Saskatchewan says it is close to finishing new plan to protect its water supply

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Saskatchewan says it is getting closer to bringing in a comprehensive plan to better manage the province's 100,000 lakes and rivers.

The government says the plan must adequately protect the province's water supply now and in the future.

The strategy will include policies on sustaining the supply of safe drinking water as well as flood and drought mitigation.

The plan will be managed by a new Crown corporation called Integrated Water Saskatchewan.

People have until the end of next month to submit their ideas before the final plan is released.

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities says it has been calling for such a strategy and is working with the government on the plan. (CJWW, CKRM, The Canadian Press)
