About 300 wine fans who lined up outside a Vancouver liquor store on Saturday had one thing in common — they wanted their hands on a bottle of the 2009 Bordeaux vintage that's creating quite the buzz.

B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch spokeswoman Tarina Palmer described the scene as organized chaos for wine lovers who rushed through the doors.

More than 5,000 cases of the 2009 Bordeaux vintage are now on the shelves of 21 speciality government liquor stores throughout the province.

Palmer says the price ranges from $29 to $3,800 per bottle and there's a limit of two bottles per customer for the premium wines.

This is the 27th year of a formal wine release at B.C. liquor stores featuring Bordeaux wine from the southwest region of France, but Palmer says the quality of the 2009 wine has been hailed as particularly good.

The Liquor Distribution Branch says the near-perfect growing season created stellar wines that are similar to the 1982 vintage released 27 years ago.
