NEW YORK, United States of America - American Airlines has suffered some well-publicized woes recently, but its bag delivery service happens to be one of the best new airline perks around, says Travel and Leisure magazine.

For US$29.95, passengers can have a bag delivered anywhere within a 64-kilometre radius of an airport, within four hours of landing. If the destination exceeds that distance, there's an additional charge and delivery could take up to six hours.

Getting two bags delivered costs $39.95, and three to 10 bags $49.95.

"Once you've arrived at your destination airport, you can bypass baggage claim and head directly to your hotel, home or wherever your travels may take you," the airline says on its website.

The service, introduced in August, applies to over 200 U.S. locations. It's available to passengers on flights originating in the U.S. and some international cities — including Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.

Among other new airline perks praised by T&L:

— Southwest Airlines has started equipping some planes with live TV. Passengers pay a fee to access the Wi-Fi service on their tablets, laptops and smartphones.

— On Spanish airline Vueling, travellers can pay 60 euros (US$78) to be guaranteed a vacant seat beside them on national flights or 70 euros (US$90) on international flights.
