HALIFAX - Hundreds of people showed up in Halifax Sunday for the funeral of a Mountie killed on the job in Saskatchewan.

Constable Derek Pineo, who joined the force in 2007, died after hitting a moose with his cruiser.

Pineo grew up in the Halifax-area and was married with three children.

Stephen Parker, one of Pineo's good friends, says the hour and a half service long service included RCMP members but was really a family service.

He says Pineo's wife and children flew from Saskatchewan for the memorial and internment.

A regimental memorial was held in Nipawan, Sask. where Pineo was stationed, on Wednesday.
