CHARLOTTETOWN - A Charlottetown chemical company has lost its bid before a provincial regulator to block construction of apartments next to its facility.
The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission issued a decision today saying the development next to BioVectra in the West Royalty Industrial Park meets safety standards.
Testimony in this round of hearings was held in June, then July of this year.
The commission ruled the development proposed this year "is not an ideal situation," but it is satisfied that it meets safety recommendations made in an earlier report.
BioVectra also had objected to the city allowing a road into the apartment development.
The city paved about 200 feet connecting Upton Road to the private road of the developers without permission from the province.
The commission says the road is simply a matter of good planning for the flow of traffic in the area.
