SYDNEY, N.S. - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles have fired their general manager after earning seven points in their first 11 games.

Head coach Ron Choules will take over on an interim basis from Pierre Roux of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team.

Roux worked for two seasons as the squad's assistant general manager before taking over as general manager in May 2011.

Team president Andre Cote announced the change Monday.

In a statement, Cote said the club was not seeing enough progress — and moving forward without Roux at the helm was in its best interest.

The Screaming Eagles are 15th among 18 teams in the league.
