Former MHA Jim Walsh has been approved for full parole.
Walsh was sentenced to 22 months for fraud and breach of trust in January for his role in the province's House of Assembly spending scandal.
In May, he was released from custody and placed on electronic monitoring in the community.
This week, the National Parole Board granted Walsh full parole when he becomes eligible on Aug. 17.
In making the decision, the board highlighted several negative aspects of Walsh's conviction.
However, officials decided that Walsh's release will facilitate his "reintegration as a law-abiding citizen,"and cited his low risk to society.
Walsh is one of five former provincial politicians jailed in relation to the House of Assembly spending scandal.
The MHAs spanned all three political parties.
Walsh was the only one of the five to go to trial.
He was convicted on two of three counts.
A St. John's businessman has also pleaded guilty to charges related to the scandal, and will be sentenced next month.

The short incarceration and early parole might be soft but the fall was hard.

This makes the Justice system in Newfoundland look ridiculous. There is a law for the rich and well connected and there is a law for the rest of the people and those laws are not administered the same way!

Why has this guy been granted full parole? Six months served out of twenty-two (which still seems to light a sentence) and hes allowed to walk? He doesnt even show any signs of remorse.
The sense of entitlement some of these higher class of people have his words not mind - continues to amaze me. If it were you or me, we would still be in jail. Of course, if it were you or me, we wouldnt have been so stupid as to put ourselves in this position in the first place.
While I dont take any solace in another persons misfortune, Walsh has no one to blame but himself regardless of what he says or thinks. People will always look at him for what he really is a common thief. -

Everyone who I speak to about him is asking the same question - What social class status and circles will he travel in now???? Maybe he will get his old job back as dressing up as Col. Saunders and sell Kentucky Fried Chicken at the corner of Elizabeth Ave. & Torbay Rd. I'll have some honey with that order please.
