Interim provincial Liberal Leader Yvonne Jones will soon be the official leader of the party.

The Liberals have a leadership convention scheduled for St. John’s for November.

But when nominations for the leadership race closed at 5 p.m. today, Jones was the only person to have filed the necessary paperwork.

She’ll be officially acclaimed leader at the convention.

Jones has held the title of Official Opposition leader on a temporary basis since former leader Gerry Reid narrowly lost his seat in the 2007 provincial election.

I thought the new savior Marshall Dean was supposed to be going for that, i guess he is too busy!!! As for Yvonne being the leader going into the next election, should be interesting...NOT! But i have to commend her for taking on the task, unlike others who would not enter. I was hoping for someone else like Gerry Byrne or Dean MacDonald to run, just to make the next election a little interesting. And thank god Danny Dumeresque(Dumber than the rest) didn't run, he is just an insult to any party!

Easy pickings for Danny Boy. Oppositions are supposed to offer alternate solutions which is hard when the leader doesn't talk in anything but jibberish that says nothing. I have yet to hear something sensible come from Jones mouth after 3 years. Next election - Tories 45, Libs 2, NDP 1

Don, what ageing Newfoundlanders are actually saying is that when they die, they want Danny Williams buried with them ,whether or not he's ready to go . As for Ms. Jones , criticism comes easy to some but I believ eany balanced person will admit she is doing a good job as opposition leader .let no one take her for granted .She's feisty , intelligent and combative and she wants the golden ring, an dis willing to work for it .

Yvonne Who???????? Would never vote for her. There is no one who can challange Ole Danny Boy. They need someone who can get in his face and stir things up.

Definitely a good news story for Danny Williams! This should make for another yawner of a Provincial election. The only thing I can think of to spice things up is if Danny Williams doesn't run for re-election.

Best of luck Ms. Jones, you're going to need it!!!!! But don't let the fact that 99.999% of Newfoundlanders think that Dictator Danny walks on water, heals the sick and raises the dead stop you from hiring the best researchers you can find, digging up the dirt on Cupids and other questionable Government financed projects (pardon the pun) and give Danny Boy a run for his money (all $400,000,000.00) of it in the Fall sitting of the House and into the future. I hear that a few Newfoundlanders are even requesting Funeral Directors to place a color photograph of Danny in their caskets when they bury them. Sounds familiar!!!
