A search and rescue effort for a reported plane crash just north of St. John’s has been called off.
Capt. Paul Hamlyn of 103 SAR at 9 Wing Gander said a search of the shoreline area and the sea where a 911 caller reported witnessing a plane crash resulted in nothing being found.
Hamlyn said the whole area near Robin Hood Bay has been covered.
A Canadian Forces Cormorant helicopter from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron in Gander, and Coast Guard vessels, were dispatched to look for the plane.
Hamlyn said no mayday was received and air traffic control at St. John's International Airport has accounted for all air traffic in the area.
