A funeral for Cpl. Brian Pinksen was held on the province’s west coast today.

The funeral service was held at a church in Corner Brook following which Pinksen’s body was taken to Sop’s Arm for burial.

Pinksen was injured by an improvised explosive device during a patrol in the Panjwaii District of Afghanistan on Aug. 22. He died at a hospital in Germany Aug. 30.

He was a member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment’s 2nd Battalion based out of Corner Brook.

The commanding officer in Corner Brook, Lt.-Col. John MacDonald, had told people wishing to pay their respects to fly Canadian flags and use yellow ribbons to show their support.

My best wishes to the family. Brian did not die in vane. He was doing his duty as a great Newfoundlander and Canadian.
