Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office confirmed today that Harper will be coming to Newfoundland on Friday to tour the devastation caused by hurricane Igor.

The time of the prime minister’s visit has not yet been determined, but Premier Danny Williams will be accompanying him on the helicopter.

Harper on Tuesday evening issued a statement saying the federal government stands ready to assist the province.

“I spoke with Premier (Danny) Williams and informed him that the Government of Canada stands ready to assist the people of Newfoundland and Labrador through Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements,” Harper said in the statement.

“Newfoundlanders affected by the storm will face numerous challenges as they rebuild in the days and weeks ahead. I am sure they will meet these challenges and this storm with their characteristic determination and resilience.”

Re: Randy...That's a good question, where are the reservists during this time of need?, has anyone observed them helping in any way?

Glad to see Danny and Steve are putting the personal stuff behind them. I expect we'll see at least one Conservative MP elected here next election, though i honestly believe we'll have a coalition government of lefties and separatists next time.
