PICTOU, N.S. — Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams says he is looking forward to finding out why his name comes up in six documents WikiLeaks plans to release later this week.

Williams says he only found out that he is mentioned in the documents earlier today.

He says he doesn’t know what the references concerning him are about and is curious.

Williams is mentioned in four documents sent by the U.S. consulate in Halifax and in two others sent by the U.S. embassy in Ottawa between October 2003 and February 2005.

The documents have not been made public.

Williams is quitting politics Friday after seven years as premier.

I would like to wish Premier Williams every success in his effort to determine why his name has surfaced in the WikiLeaks caper. The Premier has one big thing going for him in his quest for information. His great advantage, for which he should be eternally grateful, is that he doesn’t have to apply to any Department of the Government which he has presided over for the past seven years. It’s stateside again where things now appear to be truly open and transparent. Daniel Corbett

Nice try Frank; but Ghaddaffi's proposed visit was last year; the docs are from 2003-04. But it may explain some of the cold shoulder treament Dan received (and earned) in Ottawa. Good luck putting a postive Tory spin on this one; might leave Dan seeing more Purple than red. I wonder how many more corrupt politicians will be flushed out?

It comes up because he said or did something. Why ask foolish questions Danny. You know what you may or may not have done.

It was likely in the background communications between the US and Canada on the Lybian leader Momar Ghaddaffi's attempted stopover in St. John's. Nothing more than that.

There is more than meets the eye with the Premier resigning. This could be interesting. Stay tuned to this one.
