A three-day bail hearing for Raymond Gerald Newman wrapped up today at Newfoundland Supreme Court in St. John's.

Newman, the man accused of murdering his wife in 2007, was charged two weeks ago with assaulting a man, thus allegedly breaching the conditions of his bail.

Newman was arrested on the latest charges Feb. 13 in connection with a reported assault on Pennywell Road in the centre of the city. He's facing charges of assaulting a man, uttering threats to him, obstructing him from using his property and breaching a recognizance.

Newman faces a more serious charge of second-degree murder in the 2007 death of Chrissy Predham-Newman, his estranged wife. He's pleaded not guilty and is waiting to have a date set for trial on the murder charge.

Newman is due back in court on both sets of charges Tuesday — to be arraigned on the murder charges and to hear Justice Alphonsus Faour's decision on bail.
