The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) said today it received a report from Suncor of an incident with helicopter flight 521 (SCH) prior to it's departure from the Terra Nova FPSO.

While on the deck a warning light came on and the helicopter was shut down. The C-NLOPB, which described it as a minor incident, said a diagnostic check was performed and all functions were determined to be normal.

The passengers were briefed and the flight returned safely to St. John’s.

Communications, Energy and Paperworkers, Local 2121 vice president Brian Murphy said the incident is not a first and the union continues to have concerns about helicopter safety.

A Suncor spokesman could not be reached for comment.
