Federal Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff will be in St. John’s this evening to attend a rally at the Geo Centre at 7:30 p.m.

The visit follows a stop today in Halifax.

According to a Canadian Press story, the Liberals are setting their campaign sights on military veterans with a $120-million “Vets, not jets” promise.

Ignatieff told supporters in Halifax today that a Liberal government would pay the full costs of tuition, books, accommodations and living expenses for up to four years of post-secondary education or technical training for veterans.

On Sunday, Ignatieff released the Liberal campaign platform loaded with $8 billion to Canadian households and financed by repealing the latest corporate tax cut by the Harper government.

The 94-page Liberal document promises a permanent home-energy retrofit program, assistance to family caregivers, a community “Heroes Fund” for fallen firefighters and peace officers, and a new Canada Service Corps.

It also features a number of measures already announced, including $1 billion a year in student aid grants, expanded CPP benefits, a $1-billion fund for more early learning and child-care spaces, and a $1-billion Family Care Plan for those with seriously ill or aging relatives.

Remember folks it is a real world out there. Wany your roads paved, medical improvements, loan guarantees, fisheries supports (more $$$ for the fisherman to save them like we have been doing for the last 40 years) vote Conservative. IT IS all about who will be in Power and the Liberals do not stand the slightest chance of winning. We need people in the Conservative party here in NL - regardless.............. or take a stand and starve. Don't buy Dannys " fighting attitude with Harper which hurt this place we call home.

Mr. Ignatieff called Stephen Harpwer's inclusion of offshore oil royalties into the Wqualization calculation as "Draconian and Targetted", noting only NL and NS were affected by the policy change. This province is losing over $250 million in federal transfers to education and health due to harper's action. But Mr. Ignatieff has never said what he would do about it. If it is unfair as Ignatieff says - will he make a committment to NL to exclude offshore oil royalties from the Equalization calculation??? To do anything less is just Iggy's lip service. The NDP has committed in their platform to exclude offshore oil royalties from the calculation.
