A 38-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon following an industrial accident at the Rio Tinto IOC site in Labrador City.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in Labrador West is investigating the incident along with Occupational Health and Safety.

The RNC says the force received a call about 3:40 p.m. Few details are being released.

At the scene IOC fire and security personnel, along with several employees, assisted in removing the victim from the work site. He was transported to the Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the scene of the fatal incident remains closed while the investigation continues.

Out of respect for family members, the RNC says it will not be releasing any details regarding the identity of the victim.
