TORONTO — The Harper government will reportedly table legislation in June to radically reform the Senate.
The Globe and Mail reports today that one bill would limit the terms of all senators, including those already in the Upper Chamber, and a second would allow provinces to hold elections for senators whenever seats become available.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Harper appointed three Conservatives to the Senate after the trio lost in the May 2nd election.
Two of the three had already been Senators before they stepped down to run in the election.
The Harper government’s past attempts to pass similar legislation failed due to opposition from the other parties, particularly the Liberals.
But with majorities now in both Houses of Parliament, the government is confident its new Senate rules will be in place by Christmas.

What about "ELIMINATE" the senate?? That would save us all a few dollars
