OTTAWA — The union representing Canada Post workers says it’s making a last-ditch effort to avert a postal strike after rejecting the Crown corporation’s final offer.

The two sides have been in talks for more than seven months and have not been able to hammer out an agreement.

The CUPW union says it has handed Canada Post what it calls a “new and final effort” to arrive at a negotiated contract agreement.

The union has called a news conference in Ottawa this morning to talk about its latest proposal.

Both sides need to give 72 hours notice that they are going on strike or starting a lockout.

The CUPW earlier told the Crown corporation it will go on strike late Thursday night if its final offer is rejected.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers represents about 50,000 urban postal workers and negotiations to reach a new collective agreement began last fall.

I get more courtesy at a Shoppers outlet then I ever got dealing directly with Canada Post. Privatize it!

The SDM store I go to now have improved immensely in their CSR. It takes customer complains of unfriendly service for any public company to step up and prove they like dealing with customers. Deal with customers in an appropriate (i.e. friendly) manner and you'll see profits sky rocket.
