Premier Kathy Dunderdale says she’s not concerned about news that a loan guarantee for the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project won’t be in Monday’s federal budget.
Dunderdale says the federal support for the $6.2-billion project doesn’t need budget approval.
She says the federal finance minister can approve the loan with cabinet support, and that she expects a deal by the fall.
Liberal MP Gerry Byrne has asked the parliamentary budget officer for an opinion on whether the loan must be part of a budget vote.
Byrne says it should raise alarms that what amounts to a simple line item will not be included in the budget.
