Muskrat Falls is the proposed site for a major hydro dam in Labrador. Premier Kathy Dunderdale says she's not concerned if there's no loan guarantee for the project in the upcoming federal budget.
Premier Kathy Dunderdale says she’s not concerned about news that a loan guarantee for the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric project won’t be in Monday’s federal budget.
Dunderdale says the federal support for the $6.2-billion project doesn’t need budget approval.
She says the federal finance minister can approve the loan with cabinet support, and that she expects a deal by the fall.
Liberal MP Gerry Byrne has asked the parliamentary budget officer for an opinion on whether the loan must be part of a budget vote.
Byrne says it should raise alarms that what amounts to a simple line item will not be included in the budget.
