Glovertown RCMP Const. Suzanne Bourque apprehended an unusual suspect this week, a black bear cub.

While on patrol in the Terra Nova Park area, Bourque was advised there was a bear cub at one of the local rest stops and went to investigate.

According to a news release, the officer located the bear cub hanging around people at the rest stop. Some people, the officer was informed, had been feeding the cub.

While Bourque was taking some information from one of the bystanders, the cub walked towards her and brushed up against her leg.

The cub seemed to be watching and listening to the officer who began making calls to deal with the situation.

I was the person who called in about this bear! The reason the cub was staying near the highway and going up on the road was because people were throwing food out of their vehicle windows to the cub! It's obvious from this picture that it shouldn't be very difficult to capture the cub and relocate it to somewhere safer than near the highway and yet as we drove through Terra Nova today on our way back to Corner Brook the transport truck in front of us had to stop to avoid hitting this cub as it ran across the highway!! It's still in the same area and the warden was in their vehicle on the side of the highway flashing their lights and with the sirens on - which caused the cub to run across the highway!!! It was very disappointing to see that our efforts to get help for the cub was ineffective! Very unsafe for the cub and for drivers in the area!

I guess she just wanted to make sure the right measures were taken to ensure the safety of the public and the bear both alike. What do you suggest, she just leave it alone so it wanders in the road to be killed, or have innocent drivers killed. Some people. I applaud the officers of the law. Seems they can never do anything right for some people. They are the ones out there day and night trying to keep us safe. Without them where would we all be. Im sure they do their best. If people want to complain about something, why not complain about all the child abuse taking place while everyone goes on with their busy lifestyles. Now that is an issue worth fighting for.

Its good to see Officers of the Law are not affraid to mingle with "the locals". Flexxa the Officer is in no-way jeopardizing this Bears life, she is just checking to make sure its not an Alien of some sort, remember ET! you have to cover all bases!!

...great - so the officer further jeopardizes the life of the cub by taking the time to pose for the camera. every minute this cub acclimatizes itself with humans is bad news for the cub. mamma bear may also be watching - just a bad situation potentially getting worse - for the bears.
