A man suspected of stealing metal from a Mount Pearl business earlier this week made a brief appearance in provincial court in St. John’s this morning.
George Martin Sharpe, 52, is charged with theft over $5,000 and breaching a probation condition that ordered him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
He was stopped by police on the Foxtrap Access Road, and was also handed several tickets for traffic violations. Among them were having no driver’s licence or insurance, failing to transfer ownership of a vehicle, improper backing lights, no rearview mirror, failing to licence a vehicle, not wearing a seatbelt and having studded tires on the vehicle.
Sharpe is due back in court this afternoon.
His charges stem from an incident that happened at Atlantic Inspection Services in Donovan’s Industrial Park. RNC had been investigating the theft of metal at the business.
Another man, a 29-year-old, was also arrested in connection with the incident.
He was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
