Local band Hey Rosetta! has made it to the shortlist for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize for its latest CD, “Seeds.”

Released last February, “Seeds” is the follow-up to 2008’s “Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood),” which also landed on the Polaris shortlist, and is said to be the bandmembers’ most personal music to date.

This is the sixth year for the prize, which awards $30,000 to the best Canadian album, judged solely on artistic merit without taking into account musical genre, sales history or professional affiliation. It’s judged by a panel of 227 music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers.

Over the past month, the 40-strong longlist was pared down to a 10-person shortlist by the judges. On that list with Hey Rosetta! are Arcade Fire, Austra, Braids, Destroyer, Galaxie, Ron Sexsmith, Colin Stetson, TimberTimbre, and The Weeknd.

The winner will be announced Sept. 19 at a gala at Toronto’s Masonic Temple, and will be broadcast on MusicMusic, muchmusic.com, SIRIUS Satellite Radio Canada’s channel 152 and CBC Radio 3.

Hey Rosetta! is currently on tour in western Canada, after performing at Canada Day festivities in Ottawa last Friday.
