DETROIT — Chrysler is recalling 34,780 Ram pickup trucks in Canada because of a problem in the steering system.

The automaker said the move is part of a broader recall of more than 242,000 Ram pickup trucks.

The recall affects certain Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups from the 2008 to 2011 model years. The Ram is Chrysler’s bestselling vehicle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that a part near the left wheel can fracture and cause loss of steering control, leading to crashes.

The problem happens mainly at low speeds when drivers are making tight turns. Chrysler says only a few minor crashes and one minor injury have been reported.

The problem also can affect 2003 to 2008 Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty models in which the same part was replaced by mechanics.

Chrysler dealers will inspect the trucks and fix the defect for free if necessary.

Ford also has a Steering problem,at least with their 2007 PU.(a problem that they will not acknowledge. One or both u-joints of the steering shaft seize, causing a slow response, the Driver then over reacts and then there is a sudden turning which is more than needed.

Hey Yo Mama: I have seen many big Dodge, Ford and Chev trucks in the St. John's Metro area and other larger centers in the province. There is also a wide variety of "rides" in the rural areas of the province, including Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Dodge, Ford, Mercedes and the list goes on. Are you from St. John's??
