I am not surprised at the statistics for NL. We have a lot more money to spread around now. Lots of cash brings out the "bottom feeders'. I know a few young fellows who used to work as bouncers downtown and gave it up because too many of the hard cases are now carrying knives and even guns. The police are catching many drug dealers and lost of "drug busts" are in the news. But even with the best of work are good luck they will catch a small percentage of what is out therer. We have always considered that this little corner of the world was a safe place......well .....now that the oil money is rolling in we are no safer than Toronto. With harsh punsihments like "house arrest" does one wonder why the dredges of society could care less about courts/police and judges? Try 25 years for robbery and drug dealing and at least there will be no repeat offenders for that period of time.....oh sorry I forgot it is not their fault. It is drugs or they were potty trained too early or Mommy didn't love them or Daddy made them take out the trash or....or.....

Regression towards the mean! If you are extremely low or high one year then you are almost guaranteed to go up or down respectively the next year. For example, Michael Jordan scores 50 points one game but only 30 the next and peole say he isn't playing well. A 7% increase isn't much when the crime rate is very low to begin with. Liars, darn liars and statisticians.
