An adjudication tribunal has decided it's willing to approve the application of psychiatrist Dr. James Hanley to have his name reinstated to be eligible to apply for a medical licence with restrictions.

The Lawyers for Hanley and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador will submit submissions on restrictions Friday morning.

Hanley admitted in 2005 to having a sexual relationship with a female patient. He lost his licences to practice in Newfoundland and New Brunswick in 2007.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have read in a long time. While I am certain there are many letters and such stating what a wonderful person and Psychiatrist Dr. Hanley is that is very much irrelevant. The fact remains he betrayed the most sacred patient-Dr. trust and had friggin sex with a patient. What makes this worse is he prayed on an emotionally vulnerable paient which makes him a sex offender and predator in my mind. He should have never be allowe dto practice medicine again and when (not if) he re-offends all those who had a hand in making that possible should also lose their licenses.

Rick, Where is your empathy? Never made a mistake in your life?? Dr.Hanley is not a predator. He treated this woman for years and years before he became romantically involved with her . Yes,physical and sexual attraction can even happen between a psychitrist and a person with a mental illness! He made a grave mistake for which he and a lot of his patients paid dearly when they lost the services of a good doctor. Do we not give him a second chance or should he pay for the rest of his life? If this were a perfect world and you were a perfect person......
