A ground and air search of Bowring Park in St. John’s is underway as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary continues to investigate the disappearance of Scott Kelly.
The 39-year-old male was last seen on Wednesday at 2:30 a.m., when he reportedly left his home in the west end of St. John’s on foot.
Sgt. Hubert Hall, search and rescue co-ordinator for the RNC, said a search of Bowring Park was being conducted due to its close proximity to Kelly’s residence.
“We’re covering all the area,” he said, adding teams were conducting a search along both sides of Brookfield Road.
A Fire and Emergency Services helicopter is conducting an aerial search of the park, while 20 members of Rovers Search and Rescue are conducting a ground search.
Hall said the major crimes unit of the RNC was continuing its own investigation. He said the search will continue until daylight ends, at which point all parties involved will reconvene to share information and consider what work remains. Hall could not confirm how long it would take to cover the entire park.
Kelly has a medium build with blues eyes and light brown hair. He is five feet, seven inches tall.
