According to a news release, former premier Danny Williams is hitting the campaign trail in Alberta.

He is said to be supporting Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership candidate Gary Mar, by joining him on several campaign stops today.

Mar is expected to meet Williams at the airport in Fort McMurray at noon local time. From there, the two will continue to various stops from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., ending with an “East Meets West” dinner event. Then, “Gary and Danny will dialogue in interview style, with dinner, networking, live music and a photo opportunity for guests,” the release from Mar’s people states.

A subsequent release includes a statement from Williams saying Mar is "passionate" about his country, a "leader" and "communicator."

“Simply put, Canada needs energetic and dedicated individuals like Gary Mar providing leadership,” Williams said.

“I’ve had the privilege to serve Alberta as the International and Intergovernmental Relations Minister and as our official representative in the US. I worked hard to champion Alberta and Canada in both posts and had the pleasure to work alongside truly great women and men like Danny Williams,” Mar said.

“I’ve admired Danny’s tireless championing of his own province, his drive and dedication to the people living there. He inspires me and I am so grateful to him, not just for the endorsement but for his willingness to join me to celebrate, on Labour Day, the hardworking folks of this important part of Alberta.”

According to his campaign site, Mar has 14 years as a member of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly and has covered five different portfolios as a cabinet minister for that province’s government.

Danny... I wished you could have picked someone who had your ruthlessness instead of Dunderdale to replace you. I believe that he has served his time well here. Too bad, like all good things, it had to end sometime. However, Danny is a Type A personality, retirement doesn't suit him, so I'm not surprised at his decision to come back into the limelight sporatically. It is obvious that he is in the position of being able to pick and choose his 'political agenda'. I just wish he could have been the 'backseat' person to keep Dunderdale in line. She's not my idea of a 'premier', far from it. However, getting back to the topic, Gary Mar is one lucky 'candidate'. Couldn't have picked a better sidekick to get his popularity going. Hope he can keep up with the 'Danny style', as people will now expect from him. PM - Newfie; I hope you are right. Fed Up; Most people tend to forget the good and remember the bad. Backward thinking if you asked me. Yes, Danny... we do need you back here.

Smart move for Mar! Fort McMurray.has more WORKING Newfoundlanders then we do.A big boost for Mar to have Danny on side... Now if Dunderdale would do something to bring back some of our workers up there and NOT make work projects...we need real jobs here NOW... Good Luck Danny..you'll always be welcome back home!

Hvae to wonder what exactly does Danny stand to gain by doing this? Rest assured its being done in a way that will somehow benefit him just like everything he did when he was our premier.. Come clean for once Danny. What are you really up to?

Danny will never campaign here again for PC's, his business partner (MacDonald??) is a Liberal and future leadership candidate. He stayed out of Danny's "Regine" so Danny will stay out of his... (Back scratching)

Danny Williams will always have to stay in the "spotlight" in whatever way possible. It's his nature.

I have to wonder if we have heard the last of the political Danny Williams. Now firmly established that a federal party does not need the support of PQ to form a strong government majority the prerequisit of having to be fluent in French is no longer there.

Seeing he recommended her for the job and is a Progressive Conservative I dear say he supports her, especially seeing ideologically they are the same person.

I guess nobody in the PC party wants him anywhere near the campaign here so he has to go to Alberta to become the centre of attention there.
