According to a news release, former premier Danny Williams is hitting the campaign trail in Alberta.
He is said to be supporting Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership candidate Gary Mar, by joining him on several campaign stops today.
Mar is expected to meet Williams at the airport in Fort McMurray at noon local time. From there, the two will continue to various stops from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., ending with an “East Meets West” dinner event. Then, “Gary and Danny will dialogue in interview style, with dinner, networking, live music and a photo opportunity for guests,” the release from Mar’s people states.
A subsequent release includes a statement from Williams saying Mar is "passionate" about his country, a "leader" and "communicator."
“Simply put, Canada needs energetic and dedicated individuals like Gary Mar providing leadership,” Williams said.
“I’ve had the privilege to serve Alberta as the International and Intergovernmental Relations Minister and as our official representative in the US. I worked hard to champion Alberta and Canada in both posts and had the pleasure to work alongside truly great women and men like Danny Williams,” Mar said.
“I’ve admired Danny’s tireless championing of his own province, his drive and dedication to the people living there. He inspires me and I am so grateful to him, not just for the endorsement but for his willingness to join me to celebrate, on Labour Day, the hardworking folks of this important part of Alberta.”
According to his campaign site, Mar has 14 years as a member of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly and has covered five different portfolios as a cabinet minister for that province’s government.
