The Tory government will bring the Muskrat Falls and Lower Churchill projects to Labrador, Tory candidate Keith Russell told The Telegram today as Premier Kathy Dunderdale visited his district.

Russell said people understand that “we have to be on government’s side to access government coffers,” but he denied it’s a voter-intimidation tactic.

The controversial hydro deal is a big issue in his Lake Melville district and Russell described himself as a hometown boy who is a fighter with a big heart.

Russell, who used to work for the Natuashish government, noted he presented concerns about employment levels and metal mercury to the environmental review panel but says he supports the project, and so should other Aboriginal groups.

Jack - Trans Labrador Hwy - is that a provincial requirement or federal? WRT high speed access, throughout rural NL you still have areas that require satellite high speed. I know someone who is building a subdivision and aliant refused to wire the houses for highspeed. This was done in the last 3 years. The subdivision is being built for rental/timeshare as part of a resort complex. These things take time. Lots of time unfortunately.

The Trans-Labrador Highway, every inch of it, is a provincial highway.

Because Labrador has been constantly denied of a completely paved Trans Labrador Highway, no road connecting Goose Bay to Northern Labrador communities as well as Voisey's Bay, and insufficient high speed internet, I don't believe Keith Russell 100%. No more lies Tories.

"Russell said people understand that “we have to be on government’s side to access government coffers,” but he denied it’s a voter-intimidation tactic." -------------------- I find it very difficult to be critical of a new and young up and coming politician but that is one of the saddest commentaries, right there, on the state of our democracy. It is far far to cynical statement to be made by such a young man. If you truly believe that your party stands for that then surely surely it must be the wrong party, don't you think? Sure, even Danny Williams chastised one of his candidates for saying such a thing, out loud, during the last provincial election. Premier Dunderdale, where do you stand?
