Satisfaction with Kathy Dunderdale’s Tory government is high, according to a Corporate Research Associates (CRA) poll conducted exclusively for The Telegram.
The in-depth poll, with a sample size of 800, was carried out between Sept. 29 and Oct. 3. The margin of error for overall results is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points, with a 95 per cent confidence level.
Ten per cent of respondents said they are completely satisfied with the PCs led by Dunderdale, followed by 63 per cent who are mostly satisfied.
Some 17 per cent said they are mostly dissatisfied, while five per cent said they are completely dissatisfied. The remainder had no opinion or no answer.
A series of five questions was asked of respondents concerning which party best manages various issues.
The PCs came out ahead on all of them — who has the best vision for the future of the province, who can best deal with issues regarding the health-care system, who can best handle current global economic challenges, who can best maintain a balanced budget and who can best deal with social problems including public safety and crime.
The NDP finished second on all five issues.
The Liberals finished fourth, behind “don’t know/no answer” on almost all issues, except third when it comes to who has the best vision for the future of the province.
The NDP came closest to the PCs when it came to health and dealing with problems like public safety and crime.
On health, 48 per cent of respondents chose the PCs, while 26 per cent said the NDP.
On public safety and crime, 26 per cent picked the NDP and 45 per cent chose the Tories.
“The PCs are universally strong across the province,” CRA president and CEO Don Mills said.
He said the NDP resonates with many people on softer issues, but doesn’t come as close on economic challenges and maintaining a balanced budget.
