Another Federal cut. This time to the environment. So first it is the Search and Rescue centre because Harper puts a limit on the cost of a life, then cuts to DFO because Harper sees no future for any fishery especially in NL, and now a cut to the Environment where the Harper record, think Kyoto limits, is one of the worst in the world. Just shows the concerned Federal Government is looking out for our future. NOT!

NLEN does essential capacity building work in the NL ENGO community (which is still in the early stages of maturity). Every Provincial Government in Canada has funding programs available for ENGOs, usually derived from beverage container fees or wildlife licence stamp fees - except NL. Instead of restricting MMSB's funding to exclusively waste reduction, they should broaden it (as has the other Atlantic Provinces) to include funding for ENGOs. ENGOs perform an essential service in todays society (although, like any sector of society, there are groups that can be considered unethical or unsavoury). Probability of the current government creating a funding program? 0% Probability that the current government will increase funding (on the order of millions) to resource extraction companies? 100%

We are told we are living in a democracy. It's a sham. Harper and company are not representing our interest nor are they acting in the interest of the the environment in . We kow who they are representing. Times are a changing as more citizens are supporing and becoming involved in the global democracy movement to create true democracy - direct, participatory democracy - true governance by and for the people. The present representative democracy is not working for most of us as shown by the record low voter tunout in the provincial election. .
