A 16-year-old male youth in Deer Lake has been charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The RNC/RCMP street drug unit arrested the youth on Friday after observing alleged drug activity on the soccer field adjacent to school grounds of Elwood High School in Deer Lake.

Police seized 22 grams of marijuana.

The youth, who is a student of Elwood, was released to his parents and given a court date of April 11 at Corner Brook provincial youth court.

Are you kidding me? 22 grams- huge investigation by the police, an ostracization and legal punishment of a high school student for 22 grams? Unfortunately, this is a huge waste of tax payers money. Frutile!!!!! The kids are already getting it elsewhere and will proceed to continually experiment as all youths tend to do. Now what to do about the "real" drugs the kids are into these days? What to do about those who they truly emulate these behaviours from? Mothers and fathers, check your medicine cabinets....drugs come in all forms. Watch how many beers Daddio consumes on the couch this evening. Don't be disillusioned enough to think it's exclusively an outside influence.

    Legalize it

Wouldn't blame him. The Eastern School District policies forbade me from selling softdrinks, chips and bars at school I spose I would have been better off selling pot myself. Legalize, don't penalize and we won't have to haul kids out of school for a little bit of pot.

Hope his parents do something, just think how many young students he could have gotten into drugs and maybe he already has.
