While the snow of late can be an hindrance to many, it came in handy for police in St. John’s early this morning.

About 3:29 a.m., Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers responded to complaint that a man had assaulted a woman at a Pennywell Road residence.

The man had left the scene by the time police officers arrived, but the officers were able to follow the tracks of the accused in the freshly fallen snow and tracked him to a area behind a nearby residence.

The 30-year-old man was charged with common assault and breach of court order. He was held for court today.

The victim suffered minor injuries.
