The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the case of a woman who was stabbed early this morning in St. John’s.
The 22-year-old female was stabbed about 5:30 a.m. while walking alone on Torbay Road between Elizabeth Avenue and Mount Cashel Road next to a service station, according to an RNC news release.
The victim saw a man she did not know walk towards her. It is alleged he stabbed her as they passed one another. He fled from the scene heading south.
The woman managed to flag down a motorist who subsequently called 911. She was transported to hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is described as being 17-25 years old, 5’5” to 5’7” tall and approximately 130 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket or sweater, black or dark jeans and sneakers. His hood was up at the time of the incident, though the woman believes he may have dark hair.
She said he had an oval face, wide spaced eyes and a small nose. He allegedly may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The RNC’s forensic artist is working with the victim to compose a sketch of the suspect.
