Shawn Douglas Walbourne didn’t take well to the media attention.

As he was being escorted out of Courtroom No. 7 and back to the holding cells at provincial court in St. John’s today, he is alleged to have spit in a NTV cameraman’s face.

Two minutes beforehand, as Walbourne was being led into the courtroom, he threatened to do it.

“I’m going to spit on you,” he said. “You wait and see.”

After it happened, sheriff’s officers quickly whisked him through the door.

Walbourne had been arrested Monday on Grenfell Avenue in St. John’s where, police say, he had stolen property from a house he had just broken into on the same street.

Officers found him with jewelry, electronics and cash.

Later that evening, RNC officers searched Walbourne’s residence and found what they allege is more stolen items.

The 36-year-old reportedly wasn’t co-operative with officers.

He’s charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, resisting arrest and property damage.

The property damage charge relates to damage he is accused of doing to the interview room at RNC headquarters.

Police say more charges are expected to be laid in relation to other break-ins.

Walbourne will stay in jail until new charges are laid. He’s due back in court Tuesday for a possible bail hearing.

The guy told him he was going to come back and spit on him, what kind of dunce would just stand there waiting for it, oh that's right, breaking news. Possible disease for a run of the mill story.

I would like to see labour camp for guys like him. 10 years in Siberia or Eureka, Nunavut, this country is just too nice to criminals. Guys like this need to be of the streets for a long time.

People shouldn't be shown before convicted... What if he was innocent (not saying he is)??? Looks like his life the way he knew it is gone now either way.

@Ray, I have been living in Korea since 1996. Overhere, the face of the accused is not shown. You may be on to something.

According to CBC website the victim is an NTV reporter and the perp has Hep-C. So, the reporter could be infected. Another guy was given four months for an attack like this. Sinve htis guy is sick, he should be given alot more.

Shane and Calvin obviously have problems with life.Their comments show a definite lack of any humanity or even common sense, not usually missing in Newfoundlanders. Perhaps they should walk a mile in his shoes before they judge him. Myles.

To Myles: I think the actions that this fellow has taken have spoken more than enough for sensible people to judge him. Why would someone have to walk a mile in his shoes? Normal people put the effort into leading their lives in such a manner that they don't have to walk in shoes such as Mr. Walbourne's.

Dirtbag, I hope there is an asault charge on top of what he is currently facing. Another Thug Wanna-be that would run for his life if confronted but has to look like the tough-guy when being led into court.

This yahoo should be charged with assault for this and any sentence should be served consecutively. He has only himself to blame for being in the court system and if he wants no publicity, he should remember that if he does the crime, he has to do the time.
