Lucas Julius Abel was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday for the manslaughter of his former girlfriend in Nain on Jan. 12, 2010.
Abel, 27, was convicted last Saturday by a jury following his trial in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Kimberly Jararuse, 20, was found dead in Abel’s bedroom in Nain on Jan. 12, 2010.
While the autopsy conducted by Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Simon Avis was inconclusive in terms of the cause of death, he noted the injuries were consistent with, but not exclusive to, smothering.
Witnesses told the jury the couple had a history of domestic violence and abuse over their 18-month relationship.
