Three weeks after he spit at a TV cameraman, a St. John’s man has been charged with assault.

Shawn Douglas Walbourne made a brief appearance in provincial court in St. John’s Thursday.

Judge Colin Flynn read out the charge to Walbourne, who was then escorted back to the holding cells.

Walbourne was not wearing a spit mask this time, as he did during a previous court appearance.

The spitting incident happened on Feb. 15.

As Walbourne was being led back to the holding cells from Courtroom No. 7, he spit at an NTV cameraman, who was standing behind the security barrier tape with other reporters.

Walbourne faces several break and enter charges from early last month.

The 36-year-old was initially arrested on Feb. 13 on Grenfell Avenue. Police said at the time, he had jewelry, electronics and cash linked to a break-in on the same street.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary reportedly found more stolen goods inside his home later that evening.

Walbourne is charged with multiple counts of break and enter, possessing property obtained by crime, resisting arrest and damaging RNC property. The latter charge relates to damage Walbourne allegedly caused in an interview room and to a table.

He’s due back in court March 15 to answer to all his charges.
