Hundreds gathered at George Street United Church in St. John's Monday evening to mark the third anniversary of the Cougar Flight 491 helicopter crash.

Candles were lit during the memorial service as the names of the 17 people killed in the crash were read. Relatives of the dead stood up as each name was read, and the majority of those in attendance were on their feet by the time the last one was announced.

The service featured representatives from seven Christian denominations.
