It was like landing on a different planet this past weekend if you walked through the lobby and convention areas of the Holiday Inn. Aliens and ’droids were scrambling through the hallways and strange sounds and music could be heard emanating from the “Cantina” at the end of the day. This wasn’t a galaxy far, far away though. It was the sixth annual Sci-Fi on the Rock convention.
Men and women, boys and girls were dressed up in the costumes of their favourite characters or wandering the dealers’ room looking for a treasured collectible science fiction toy, model ship or comic book. Hundreds of fans and collectors gathered to express their love of another world, another time or even another timeline. Even some special guests were flown in by plane — or starfighter — to meet the hundreds of fans who participated in the event. The world of “Battlestar Galactica” featured actor Richard Hatch, who portrayed Captain Apollo. Actor Peter Roy of “Star Wars” and “Doctor Who” fame was also a guest.
