A fire broke out aboard the SeaRose FPSO today but was quickly extinguished by the onboard fire suppression system, according to a notice issued by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB).

No one was injured.

The CNLOPB states it received a report of a “small fire” at a power generator (power generator C) at about 4:30 a.m.

“Personnel on the SeaRose observed smoke and a small fire within the enclosure through a view porthole. The unit was shut down and the fire suppression system immediately extinguished the fire.

“A general platform alarm was sounded and all personnel were mustered.”

The power unit was shut down and the fire suppression system killed the fire.

“Systems and operations have returned to normal with an investigation into the incident ongoing by Husky Energy,” the CNLOPB has stated.

“Systems and operations have returned to normal with an investigation into the incident ongoing by Husky Energy,” the CNLOPB has stated." On a vessel such as this any type of fire is an extremely serious incident. Operations should NOT return to normal. Yet again an offshore operator is allowed to investigate themselves. The Wells Inquiry has been forgotten already.
