Keisha Power, 20, has been acquitted of a charge of theft over $5,000 that had alleged she stole almost $29,000 from a safety deposit box at a hotel in St. John's.

Power was, however, found guilty of theft under $5,000 in relation to $150 that was found in her purse on Feb. 2, 2012.

Staff of The Battery Hotel testified at trial that Power had come in to the hotel with a key to gain access to a safety deposit box belonging to a guest. A hotel steward told the court Power put the contents of the box in her purse, but he didn't actually see if it was money.

A man then showed up at the hotel to confront Power saying she was trying to steal from him.

The defence, however, had pointed out that nobody actually saw Power with the large amount of money and that only $150 was found on her person.

Power received one year probation for the conviction on theft of $150.

The probation also covers another conviction for theft under $5,000 after $70 worth of make-up goods was found in her purse at Shoppers Drug Mart on Torbay Road.

    SO SAD

Time for her now to rethink her path in life, and make a decision to get off that path. It is a second chance, and I hope she makes the right decisions. It's so sad to see a young woman, with her whole life ahead of her, just throw it away, on this senseless, petty garbage. Hope you take care, and have better days in the future.

I hope this young woman realizes how lucky she is....this time....and takes this opportunity to change her life around for the better. You have been given a second chance...you may not be as lucky if you try it again.

so if i decide to rob almost 30,000.00 and i decide to give it back only to avoid being caught and to avoid being arrested I too will get off scott free despite the fact i was infact stealing? No id go to jail. Our judicial system in an utter joke. if the fella she was stealing the money from never arrived on the scene she would have never put it back. She should go to Jail. Probation is a joke that this sorry excuse which will never be able to live up to the conditions of her probation

Seriously?? A years probation after being found guilty of two thefts??? Where's the deterrent?? Basically this tells me if I had a chance to gaff $29,000 I would be absolutely brain dead not to jump at it. If I ever get caught all you will get is probation, (which is a farce to begin with!!!) Terrible, she totally got away with. If I was the victim here I would be pissed with our pretend justice system.

Maybe she will learn some life lessons about how her actions does not contain much of a future for her.
