Liberal Leader Dwight Ball was raising alarms about potentially hundreds of jobs being eliminated from Eastern Health in an announcement Tuesday.
During Question Period in the House of Assembly, Ball said that he's hearing the province's largest health authority will be getting rid of 552 jobs, to save more than $40 million.
Health Minister Susan Sullivan wouldn't confirm the job cuts; she would only say that Eastern Health will be holding a news conference Tuesday, and that an announcement will be made then.
Ball said he's worried that the cuts will have a direct impact on services. In the lead-up to this year's budget, the government said it was looking to find savings in government spending, but that front-line services in health care and other areas would not be affected.
