Natural Resource Minister Jerome Kennedy said today that the province will be pushing to make sure all three of the modules on the Hebron oil platform get built in Newfoundland.
Under the Hebron development agreement, all three modules should be built in the province, but only if there are facilities that can handle the work.
Up until now, it's looked like to modules would be built here with Marystown and Bull Arm shipyards each handling one.
"I met with Exxon Mobil a couple weeks ago and let them know that from the province's perspective, all three modules could be built in this province, that the Hebron benefits agreement is meant to benefit the people of this province," Kennedy told reporters this afternoon.
Kennedy said that he believes that the Bull Arm fabrication facility can build two of the three Hebron modules.
If Exxon doesn't believe this is doable, they can dispute it, and there is a means of resolution in the Hebron benefits agreement.
Each module represents a massive structure as part of the oil platform, and is worth $60-100 million dollars in work to the provincial economy.
