Distracted driving is being targeted by the RNC and employees of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro this week.

Hydro recently adopted safety guidelines governing the use of mobile devices while driving, and decided to bring the safe driving message to a larger audience through a partnership with the RNC, said Hydro’s safety and health manager, John Hollohan.

“Our employees drive 6.9 million kilometres every year in our fleet vehicles, so we recognize the importance of keeping our employees safe while they are on the road,” he said in a release.

RNC media relations officer Const. Talia Murphy said cellphone use by drivers is a serious safety concern.

“These distractions are not only dangerous but illegal. We’re partnering together in hopes of making our road ways safer by reminding drivers of the importance of practising safe driving behaviours,” she said.

The ban on hand-held use of cell phones while driving in NL is a joke. NL has the distinction of being the first Province to introduce the ban but also the distinction with the reputation of the Province that's the worst when it comes to enforcing it. One only has to drive a few miles around the City to see dozens of drivers gabbing on their cellphones, oblivious of everyone else in the world, including other drivers, who are at risk of being in an accident caused by these irresponsible dweebs. RNC , where are you ??????????????

Too bad the Hydro truck that flew by my home this morning at about 60-70km in a 30km zone wasn't worrying about people,s safety,if I had to call the police he would have been on the Waterfront before they got here.Practice what you preach Mr Hydro truck driver.
