Water bombers and firefighters are fighting what is being described as a small forest fire burning on the north side of the Trans-Labrador Highway, about four kilometres from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The fire was observed about 1:36 p.m. today and the highway was closed temporarily but has since been reopened.

The area burning runs adjacent to 5 Wing Goose Bay Military Base but officials with the Department of Natural Resources and the RCMP say there is no concern for safety for residents of 5 Wing Goose Bay or the travelling public at this time
