Officer injured after being dragged by ATV driver, charges laid

A 27-year-old man is facing charges of assaulting a police officer after a member of the RCMP was dragged along a road while trying to stop an ATV being driven illegally.

The officer received minor injuries and was later treated at hospital.

The man was attempting to flee the officer following a traffic stop on High Road South in Carbonear.

The man was unsuccessful in his escape attempt, and faces charges of obstructing a police officer in addition to the assault charge.

He was released and will be in court to face the charges Aug. 28.
