There were some tense moments on the Conception Bay South highway, near the Manuels Access Road, on Saturday.

A tanker truck carrying 20,000 litres of gasoline burst into flames alongside the busy roadway.

Fire crews got to the scene quickly and managed to contain the fire to the cab section of the vehicle — but some homes and businesses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

The road was closed from between about 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.

The driver managed to get away from the vehicle and there were no injuries.

There is no word on what caused the fire. The incident is under investigation.
