Family, friends and teammates of Erin Bursey gathered on Saturday to say their final goodbyes.
More than 400 people attended a public memorial ceremony in MUN's Field House.
Bursey was captain of the university’s women's volleyball team. The service was held on the court where she spent countless hours practicing with her teammates.
She had recently graduated from MUN with a science degree. According to her eulogy, she was thinking of continuing her studies to become a doctor.
The 21-year-old passed away Tuesday evening, succumbing to her injuries from a pedestrian-vehicle accident Saturday evening in St. John’s.

This is a tragic loss, This young woman had so much to offer, an example to so many, and such a "smart and sensible" person. I hope her family gets the closure they deserve when the "Truth" of what actually happened finally comes out, whatever it may be, instead of all the assumptions based on heresay stories, I did not see any official report saying "she ran into a vehicle", while crossing the road. And until the "official" investigation has been completed there is no innocent or at fault person.
