Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP officers successfully talked a man out of jumping into the river at the top of Muskrat Falls on Tuesday, after three hours of negotiations.

The RCMP received a call at around 2 p.m. telling police a 27-year-old man had driven to the falls and was threatening to commit suicide.

The man had been drinking, police say.

The man eventually turned himself over to the RCMP, who arrested the man for failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with an undertaking, and driving while prohibited.

A ground search and rescue team were also on scene in two boats down river from the falls.

There were no injuries reported.
