A man has been sent to hospital after driving his motorbike into a moose at about 6:40 a.m. on the Trans Canada Highway, between the Salmonier Access Road and Avondale Access Road.

The man, who Holyrood RCMP estimate to be about 22-years-old, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle east-bound when he struck the back end of a moose that had run onto the road, according to witness reports.

The moose ran into the woods following the collision.

The man, although conscious, was unable to walk away. The extent of the man’s injuries are not known.

Road conditions were good, with dry roads and sunny weather, and speed was not a factor in the collision.
