A waterbomber had to be called in Saturday evening to deal with a forest fire in the Shea Heights area of St. John’s. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department was originally called to the blaze in an area known as Duck Pond but it was determined the fire was too far into the woods for their firefighters to effectively battle.

Firefighters eventually determined that it was actually three different fires burning in the same five to ten acre area and that they were spreading into denser woods when the waterbomber arrived. The blaze, as well as the waterbomber fighting the fire, could be seen from many areas of the capital city.

There was no word on what may have caused the three fires.
